Authorities Identify Juvenile Killed in Bakersfield Car Crash Tuesday Morning

Bakersfield, California (January 9, 2020) – Authorities identified the 9-year-old child who died in a hit-and-run crash that happened Tuesday morning in Bakersfield, a local news source reported.

The crash transpired at about 3:30 a.m., where Cottonwood and East Pacheco roads meet.

As per the article, Emiliano Hernandez, of Bakersfield, was a passenger in a car heading southbound on Cottonwood. A pickup truck pulled out in front of the car from East Pacheco Road, causing a crash.

After the initial collision, another car hit the victim’s vehicle on Cottonwood Road.

The driver of the truck abandoned the vehicle after the collision and fled the scene.

The deceased’s vehicle had three other juveniles and at least one adult at the time of the accident.

The juveniles sustained moderate to major injuries. The adult was not injured. Hernandez was hospitalized at Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera, where he was later pronounced dead. Authorities said there were no injuries reported in the second crash.

Authorities found the suspect driver, Evaristo Perez Nunez, 32. The suspect attempted to resist arrest and assaulted an officer. He was later arrested after a brief struggle and booked into the Kern County Jail. He faces charges in felony hit-and-run, causing serious injury, assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest, driving without insurance, driving without a license, violating the right-of-way, and possession of an open container of alcohol in a vehicle.
