Driver Dies after Being Struck by Vehicle on Interstate 15 in Barstow

43-Year-old Las Vegas Man Killed in Barstow Pedestrian Crash on southbound Interstate 15

Barstow, California (April 18, 2020) – A driver died after being hit by a vehicle Thursday night in Barstow, authorities said.

The driver, a 43-year-old Las Vegas man, was traveling southbound on the Interstate 15 Freeway at around 9:53 p.m. Thursday, April 16, when, for undetermined reasons, his 2002 Hyundai Elantra became disabled in the center median.

The man then exited the disabled vehicle and tried to cross the southbound lanes of the freeway, where he was hit by a 2014 Chevy Camaro.

The pedestrian, whose name has not been disclosed, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Chevy driver, a 23-year-old Porterville woman, stopped at the scene after the accident.

Authorities said neither alcohol nor drugs suspected factors in the accident. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding the collision is asked to call 760-255-5900.

A person on foot is no match for a large, multi-ton vehicle. Pedestrians have virtually no protection when they are hit by cars, motorcycles, trucks, and other vehicles. Sadly, this often leads to catastrophic injuries and/or death.
