Selma, California (May 11, 2020) – An 11-year-old Delhi girl was killed and several other people were seriously injured Sunday afternoon in a fiery traffic crash involving six vehicles in Selma, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The multi-vehicle crash, involving a big rig, happened at about 1:20 p.m. Sunday, May 10, on northbound Highway 99, just south of Mountain View Avenue.

According to the CHP, traffic on northbound Highway 99 was slowing down due to a construction in the area. The big rig towing a trailer full of fruit failed to slow down, triggering a chain reaction.

The big rig reportedly crashed into five other vehicles. As a result of the collision, the big caught fire.

A total of fifteen people were involved in the wreck. Ten of them suffered moderate to major injuries and were transported to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The driver and three passengers in a 1990 Toyota pickup were all treated at the scene.

The driver of a 2004 Lincoln Navigator suffered moderate injuries and four passengers had major injuries. All the passengers were from Delhi.

A fifth passenger in the Navigator, an 11-year-old girl also from Delhi, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been disclosed pending notification of family.

The driver of a 2017 GMC van sustained minor injuries. The driver of a 2020 Infinity QX60 suffered major injuries and a passenger had moderate injuries.

The driver of a Ford pickup was not hurt in the crash.

The driver of the big rig stopped at the scene and cooperated with the authorities. Intoxication was not believed to have been a factor in the accident.

Authorities closed northbound Highway 99, and traffic was being diverted at Floral Avenue.

The accident remains under investigation.

Managing Partner and CEO Alpine Law Group, Mr. Arin Khodaverdian believes that car accident claims are rarely straightforward regardless of the circumstances involved. “Liable insurance companies will often do everything possible to limit their out-of-pocket expenses by either devaluing or outright denying your claim and it is crucial, therefore, to have an experienced attorney on your side,” He said.

Mr. Khodaverdian has worked for many years as a wrongful death and personal injury attorney. He and his team of attorneys has helped thousands of injury victims and their families recover over $100 million in compensation. “In one case, we recovered a 7-figure settlement within 11 business days of being hired by the family of a victim who was killed by a negligent driver.”

Swift action by an experienced attorney helps preserve evidence, interview witnesses, and begin to pursue those responsible for the incident.
