Daniel Torres and Julie Torres Identified as 2 of 4 Injured in Fresno County Car Accident at Nebraska and Elm Avenues
Fresno County, California (January 26, 2020) – Daniel Torres, 56 and Julie Torres, 79, have been identified as two of the four people who were injured Friday morning in a traffic accident that also left a suspected drunk driver dead in Fresno County.
The deadly wreck took place at around 11:40 a.m. Friday, January 24 in the area of Nebraska and Elm avenues near Caruthers.
According to a report by the California Highway Patrol, Hector Cortes, 39, of Fresno, was driving a 1992 Chevrolet S-10 truck when he failed to stop at a red light at the intersection and crashed into a 2018 Jeep Liberty which had the right-of-way.
As a result of the collision, both vehicles rolled over and blocked the roadway.
Cortes died at the scene. Daniel Torres and Julie Torres, who were passengers in the Jeep, were taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno with moderate injuries.
The driver of the Jeep sustained major injuries and was transported to Community Regional Medical Center. Another passenger in the Jeep, a 23-year-old woman, who was 29 weeks pregnant, was also taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where she underwent an emergency cesarean section. Her baby later died.
Authorities believed that alcohol played a role in the accident.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
