Cleusa Coffman Killed in Newport Beach Hit-And-Run Crash on Mesa Drive

Newport Beach, California – One woman as killed in a Sunday morning hit-and-run accident that occurred on Mesa Drive and Irvine Avenue in Newport Beach. She has been identified as Cleusa M. Coffman, 72, of Newport Beach.

The California Highway Patrol stated that at around 6:53 am Coffman was walking her dog through the intersection in a crosswalk when both of them were hit by a vehicle heading south on Irvine Avenue.

The driver is suspected to be Ali Zohair Fakhreddine, 31, who allegedly failed to stop at the red light and hit the pedestrian and the dog. Both the women and her dog died at the scene.

Ali fled the scene after the accident but was located with his 2014 Hyundai three hours later.

The Hyundai sustained consistent damages with the accident as per the authorities.

Ali was arrested on suspicion of driving under influence and hit-and-run.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
