Authorities Identify Woman Killed in Merced Car Accident on West Olive Avenue and Austin Avenue as Carmen Hernandez

Merced, California (December 11, 2019) – The woman who died in a traffic accident that happened Monday afternoon at an intersection in Merced has been identified by authorities as Carmen Torres Hernandez, 61, of Merced.

The deadly crash occurred at around 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 9 at the intersection of West Olive Avenue and Austin Avenue.

As per the report, Dan Gruych, 72, of Merced, was driving a 2001 Toyota Tundra eastbound on West Olive Avenue when he ran a red light and hit a white 1994 Toyota Camry that was turning left onto West Olive Avenue from Austin Avenue.

A third car was involved in the collision and sustained minor damage.

Emergency crews responded to the scene and attempted to treat Hernandez. But she succumbed to her injuries a short time later and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The condition of Gruych was not immediately known. No injuries were reported from the third vehicle.

Authorities said neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected factors in the crash.

Merced Police is investigating the accident.
