Authorities Identify Man Killed in Fiery Crash on 60 Freeway in Industry

Jeremy Olivas Killed in Industry DUI Car Accident on 60 Freeway

Industry, California (January 22, 2020) – Jeremy Richard Olivas, 27, of Whittier, has been identified as the man who died in a fiery crash that happened Thursday night in Industry.

The fatal wreck took place at about 10:00 p.m. Thursday, January 9 on 60 Freeway.

Authorities said Kaj Faaborg, 42, was driving a 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 Promaster van when he failed to slow down for stopped traffic and crashed into the rear of a 2004 Ford Mustang driven by Olivas. The impact of the crash pushed Mustang into a 2006 Honda Odyssey, which then slammed into the back of a 2010 Toyota Camry.

Both the Mustang and the Odyssey burst into flames, as a result of the crash.

Olivas was trapped inside the burning car and had to be extricated by emergency responders.  According to officials, Olivas died from inhalation of products of combustion.

A 41-year-old Montebello man, who was the driver of the Honda, was taken to a local hospital with severe burns. A man and a woman, who were inside the Toyota, declined medical treatment.

Faaborg did not stop to render aid and fled the scene, but was later arrested. He was booked into custody on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run.

His bail was set at $760,000 and was scheduled to appear on February 4 at the Pomona Superior Court.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
