Authorities Identify Father, Son Killed in Auburn Plane Crash

Auburn, California (January 25, 2019) – Authorities have identified the two people who died Friday morning after a single-engine plane crashed near a golf course in the Auburn area.
The fatal crash took place just after 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 24 in the 13000 block of Dry Creek Road, about one mile northeast of Auburn Municipal Airport.
According to officials, a single-engine Stinson Vultee V-77 plane had just taken off from the Auburn Municipal Airport when it crashed onto private property in the area of the Black Oak Golf Course.
Authorities said three people were aboard the plane at the time of the accident. One person died at the scene and the other person was taken to a hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The third person was airlifted to Sutter Roseville hospital in an unknown condition.
The deceased victims were identified as Anthony Lawrence Wright Sr., 80, and his son Anthony Lawrence Wright Jr., 55, both of Meadow Vista.
According to police, Wright Jr. was a reserve officer and a full-time records officer with the Rancho Cordova Police Department. He was also a 23-year veteran of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department.
The accident remains under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
