9-Month Old Baby Injured, Ashley Bowman Arrested in San Rafael Pedestrian Accident on Fifth Avenue
San Rafael, California (February 8, 2020) – A 9-month-old baby was injured Friday morning in an alleged hit-and-run accident in San Rafael, police said.
The crash took place at around 9:30 a.m. Friday, February 7 on Fifth Avenue.
According to the authorities, a 19-year-old San Rafael woman was pushing her 9-month-old brother in a stroller in a crosswalk when, for an unknown reason, the stroller was struck by a Honda Civic that was making a left turn onto Fifth Avenue.
Due to the impact, the stroller overturned. The baby was launched from the stroller and suffered facial injuries.
Ashley Bowman, 28, who was driving with her 6-month-old daughter in the Honda, stopped briefly and fled the scene. She was later arrested on three felony charges, including bodily injury while driving under the influence of drugs, hit and run resulting in injury and willful cruelty to a child. She was held in Marin County Jail on Friday in lieu of $50,000 bail.
A person on foot is no match for a large, multi-ton vehicle. Pedestrians have virtually no protection when they are hit by cars, motorcycles, trucks, and other vehicles. Sadly, this often leads to catastrophic injuries and/or death.
