Arnold Johnson and Tyler Evangelista Injured in Atascadero DUI Car Accident on Highway 101
Atascadero, California (March 2, 2020) – Two people were hospitalized early Sunday morning following an alleged DUI wrong-way crash on Highway 101 in Atascadero, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred in the southbound lanes of the highway shortly after 1:30 a.m. Sunday, March 1.
The CHP said Arnold Johnson, 52, of Paso Robles, was driving southbound on Highway 101. At the same time, Monica Duggan, 36, of Atascadero, was driving northbound in the southbound lanes of Highway 101.
Johnson reportedly veered to the right to avoid the collision, but the wrong-way vehicle finally struck his vehicle. Due to the impact, both vehicles spun out of control.
Johnson and his passenger, Tyler Evangelista, 27, of Santa Margarita, were taken to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center for precautionary reasons.
According to the CHP, Duggan was also taken to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center with her nose bleeding. Police later arrested Duggan on suspicion of DUI.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
