Alejandro Madrid ID’d as Man Killed in Sylmar Car Accident on Foothill (210)Freeway near Polk Street Off-Ramp

Sylmar, California (May 17, 2020) – Authorities have identified the man who died in a traffic accident involving a semi-truck and a vehicle Thursday night in Sylmar as Alejandro Madrid, 39, of Pasadena.

The fatal crash took place at around 10:55 p.m. Thursday, May 14, on the eastbound Foothill (210) Freeway, near the Polk Street off-ramp.

Authorities said Madrid was driving his 2012 Cadillac in the eastbound lane of the 210 Freeway when, for unknown reasons, the Cadillac collided with a semi-truck. The Cadillac caught fire after the impact.

Madrid was pronounced dead at the scene.

Debris spread in all lanes of the freeway following the crash.

All eastbound lanes of the Foothill Freeway near Polk Street were closed for more than five hours during the investigation and cleanup. As of 4:15 a.m., the freeway was reopened.

It is undetermined whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
