4 Children Among 6 Injured in School Bus Accident on Morro Way in Lake Elsinore

2 Adults, 4 Children Hospitalized after Lake Elsinore Bus Crash on Morro Way and Grand Avenue

Lake Elsinore, California (December 14, 2019) – Four children were among six people injured Friday morning in a traffic collision involving a school bus and a van in Lake Elsinore, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The wreck took place at around 7:32 a.m. Friday, December 13 in the 1400 block of Morro Way near Grand Avenue.

The CHP said a Chevy Express passenger van was traveling eastbound on Morro Way while the school bus was traveling southbound on Grand Avenue.

The van approached a stop sign and entered the intersection as the bus was starting to enter the intersection after it had stopped.  The bus struck the front of the driver’s side of the van. Both vehicles sustained major damage as a result of the crash.

The driver of the van, a 38-year-old man, and one of his passengers, a 5-year-old girl, were trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by emergency crews. The two had major injuries.

Two other juvenile passengers in the van, a 10-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy, suffered minor injuries. All three children were transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center.

The operator of the bus and a 9-year-old girl complained of pain. The other seven students on the bus who were uninjured in the crash were released to the school district.

It was not immediately clear if the three children in the Chevy van were properly restrained.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
