3 Die after Death Valley Car Accident on Highway 178 near Highway 127

Death Valley, California (June 2, 2020) – Authorities are investigating a Sunday afternoon head-on car crash that killed three people and left five others nursing injuries in Death Valley.

At around 12:21 p.m., on May 31, the California Highway Patrol responded to the deadly crash on Highway 178, just east of Highway 127.

A 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche, operated by Luis Echeverria of Fontana, was traveling westbound on Highway 178 when it crashed head-on into a 2017 BMW X5, the police said.

The BMW was reportedly traveling eastbound and was driven by Chantra Sun of Baldwin Park at the time of the accident.

A passenger in the BMW and two passengers in the Chevrolet were pronounced dead at the scene. Their names were not disclosed.

Five other victims involved in the crash were transported to Las Vegas University Medical Center in unknown conditions.

The crash remains under investigation.
