2 Killed, 3 Injured in Fiery Vehicle Crash on Highway 145 in Madera County
3 Hospitalized after Double Fatal Crash in Madera County on Highway 145 near Madera Ranchos
Madera County, California (February 29, 2020) – Two people were killed and three injured in a fiery vehicle accident on Highway 145 near Madera Ranchos in Madera County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Authorities said a 2015 Chrysler 300, driven by a 29-year-old man from Hollister, was heading westbound on the highway at an unknown rate of speed while a 37-year-old Madera woman was driving a 2003 Honda Accord eastbound on the road, approaching the same location.
The driver of the Chrysler tried to overtake another vehicle when he collided head-on with the Honda Accord.
The Chrysler traveled off north off the shoulder of the Highway, through a barbed-wire fence and overturned.
The Chrysler came to rest on its wheels then burst into flames.
The Accord spun in a clockwise rotation and came to rest partially blocking the eastbound lane of the highway.
Both drivers involved were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Two passengers in the Honda sustained severe injuries and were airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno for treatment.
One passenger in the Chrysler suffered major injuries and was taken to CRCM by ambulance.
The highway was closed for about four hours for the investigation.
