2 Dead in Plane Crash on Springfield Road in Tuolumne County

2 Killed in Tuolumne County Plane Crash in Sierra Nevada Foothills near Columbia Airport 

Sonora, California (February 6, 2020) – Authorities are investigating a small plane crash that killed two people on Wednesday evening in Tuolumne County.

Moments after 6:00 p.m., February 5, a plane crashed in the 21000 block of Springfield Road near Horseshoe Bend Road.

The crash site is reportedly near the Columbia Airport, around 70 miles southeast of Sacramento, a field behind a home in Tuolumne County.

The plane was a single-engine Cessna 140A, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Two people in the plane died as a result of the accident.

Officials said there was no threat caused by the incident to the nearby communities.

The destination of the plane was not immediately known.

The National Transportation Safety Board was notified of the crash, according to Sheriff’s Office.

The crash remains under investigation.
