Fatal Pauma Valley Violent Head-On Accident on Highway 76 near Pauma Reservation Road
San Diego, California (January 3, 2020) – The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of an alleged DUI head-on collision that resulted in the death of one person on Thursday night in Pauma Valley.
The collision happened on state Route 76 near Pauma Reservation Road in a North County community at around 10:30 p.m. on January 2.
The accident involved a Toyota Prius driven by a 23-year-old female party and an Infiniti sedan driven by a 43-year-old woman from Riverside County.
The initial report showed that the Prius crossed over double-yellow lines and collided head-on with the sedan.
The Infiniti motorist was attended to by paramedics who responded to the scene shortly after the accident. Despite extensive life-saving measures, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Officials said a 44-year-old woman from San Marcos, who was riding as a passenger in the Infiniti, was hospitalized after the wreck.
The operator of the Prius was also rushed to the hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.
Police later arrested her for an allegedly driving while intoxicated.
The accident remains under an active investigation.
