82-Year-Old Holtville Woman Killed, Brawley Man Injured in El Centro Head-On Crash on Highway 111

El Centro, California (December 7, 2019) – A wrong-way driver was killed and one other person was injured Thursday evening in a traffic accident in El Centro, according to a local news source.

The deadly accident happened at about 5:00 p.m. Thursday, December 6 on State Route 111.

According to the California Highway Patrol, an 82-year old Holtville woman was driving a Toyota northbound in the southbound lanes of State Route 111 with her headlights turned off when her vehicle collided head-on with a Ford driven by a Brawley man.

The CHP said the Toyota driver was taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Her name has not been released pending notification of family.

The driver of the Ford sustained a fracture to his right leg.

No other details were immediately provided.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
