1 Dies, 2 Hospitalized after 2-Vehicle Crash on SR-99 in Chico
1 Killed, 2 Injured in Chico Car Crash on SR-99 near Hamilton Nord Cana Highway
Chico, California (March 15, 2020) – The California Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal two-car crash that killed one person and left two other people injured on Saturday in Chico.
The CHP responded to the crash at about noon, on March 14 on southbound SR-99, south of Hamilton Nord Cana Highway. The accident involved a black Toyota 4Runner and a white Toyota Camry.
The 4Runner was traveling southbound when it crossed into the northbound lane, nearly colliding with a semi-truck. The 4Runner driver swerved back into the southbound lane and over into the shoulder, according to the police.
The driver then overcorrected, lost control, and veered back into the northbound lane and eventually crashed with the Camry, according to the CHP.
Due to the crash, the Camry flipped and came to rest on its roof. It had significant front end damage. The 4Runner rolled and came to a rest on its right side.
The driver of the Camry was declared dead at the scene.
The driver and passenger of the 4Runner were transported to Enloe Hospital with major injuries.
SR-99 was closed for three hours following the accident.
Drugs or alcohol were not suspected to be a factor in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
