Homeless Woman Dies Following Fatal Chula Vista Pedestrian Accident on Anita Street near Broadway
Chula Vista, California (March 1, 2020) – A 70-year-old homeless woman died after being struck by a plumbing van Sunday evening in Chula Vista, authorities said.
The deadly accident, which was reported at about 6:30 p.m., happened on Anita Street near Broadway.
According to the authorities, the woman was crossing the street mid-block when, for an unknown reason, a white van hit her. As a result of the crash, the woman was dragged under the van for a short distance on Anita Street before the driver stopped.
The woman was taken to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. Her name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
The driver of the van stopped at the scene and cooperated with the investigators. The driver told the police that he didn’t see the woman in time to avoid hitting her.
The driver was heading home from work at the time of the accident. Authorities said speed might have played a role in the crash.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
A person on foot is no match for a large, multi-ton vehicle. Pedestrians have virtually no protection when they are hit by cars, motorcycles, trucks, and other vehicles. Sadly, this often leads to catastrophic injuries and/or death.
