Just after 6:15 p.m., officers responded to the crash on the northbound side of Interstate 880 at the 29th Avenue on-ramp.
Upon arrival, they found a woman on the right side of the road and a white Ford F-250 pickup truck was in the center divider.
Paramedics took the woman to a nearby hospital with major injuries. Her name and condition at this time remained undisclosed.
The roadway was closed while the authorities investigated the scene.
Anyone with information regarding the accident is urged to call the CHP at 800-835-5247.
A person on foot is no match for a large, multi-ton vehicle. Pedestrians have virtually no protection when they are hit by cars, motorcycles, trucks, and other vehicles. Sadly, this often leads to catastrophic injuries and/or death.
