Waynette Hunter Dies after Honda Collides with Nissan Sunday morning at 98th Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard in East Oakland
Oakland, California (April 29, 2020) – A two-vehicle crash claimed the life of a 20-year-old Oakland woman early Sunday morning in East Oakland and left two other people seriously injured, police said.
On April 26, at around 3:36 a.m., a silver Nissan Quest and a white Honda Civic collided at the intersection of 98th Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard.
Investigators determined that the Nissan Quest was heading westbound on MacArthur Boulevard while the Honda Civic was traveling eastbound on the same road.
The Nissan Quest reportedly attempted to make a southbound turn onto 98th Avenue and was struck by the Honda Civic.
A passenger in the Honda, now identified as Waynette Hunter, 29, of Oakland, died at the scene.
A 25-year-old Oakland woman, who was the driver of the Honda, was transported to Highland Hospital in Oakland, where she was listed in critical but stable condition.
The driver of the Nissan Quest, a 20-year-old Oakland woman, was also transported to Highland Hospital and was listed in critical condition.
It is undetermined if intoxication played a role in the accident.
Police traffic investigators asked anyone who witnessed the accident to call them at 510-777-8570.
