Gustavo Gutierrez Hospitalized After Gilroy Car Crash on Highway 25 near Bloomfield Avenue

Gilroy, California (January 5, 2020) – The California Highway Patrol has released the name of the victim injured in a traffic collision that happened in Gilroy on Thursday night as 35-year-old Gustavo Gutierrez.

The fatal collision involving a van and a truck happened on southbound Highway 25 near Bloomfield Avenue at about 9:09 p.m. January 2.

The accident involved a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 pickup truck driven by Jesus Rodriguez of Hollister and a 2017 Ford Transit 250 van driven by a 42-year-old San Jose man.

The initial report indicated that Rodriguez was making a turn from a private driveway onto Highway 25 at the time of the collision.

Due to the impact of the collision, the van overturned off the roadway.

The van motorist died in the accident.

Gutierrez, who was riding as a passenger in the van, suffered major injuries in the crash. Gutierrez was rushed to a hospital for medication.

Authorities affirmed that Rodriguez was also taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

He was later arrested on suspicion of DUI.
