Irvine Bicycle Crash at Portola Parkway and State Route 261 Kills Female Party

Irvine, California (May 26, 2020) – A 70-year-old female bicyclist died after being struck by a gray Mercedes ML350 at the intersection of Portola Parkway and State Route 261 in Irvine at around 10:00 a.m. May 25.

The circumstances that led to the Monday morning collision were not immediately established at the time of the report.

Sadly, the bicyclist was declared dead at the scene. Pending notification of next of kin, the identity of the deceased remained undisclosed.

The involved motorist remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

The crash resulted in the closure of Portola Parkway from Forge to the 261 toll road for several hours as investigation and clean-up took place.

An investigation into the accident is underway. Irvine police Officer Mike Bergstrom urged anyone who witnessed the collision to contact them at 949-724-7212, ext. 2046.
