Fresno, California (January 30, 2020) – The suspected hit-and-run driver, who struck and killed a man in a wheelchair on Friday last week in Fresno, has been arrested.
The crash happened at about 6:15 p.m., January 24, on Brawley Avenue, south of southbound of West Weldon Avenue.
According to a local news source, a man in a wheelchair identified as Ronnie Rodriguez, 53, was traveling on the edge of the northbound lanes of Brawley Avenue when he was struck by 38-year-old Raul Morales.
Raules, in a car described as a white extended cab Chevrolet pickup truck, did not stop to render aid after the crash. Witnesses said that the truck was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the crash.
Rodriguez was declared dead at the crash site.
Officials located the Chevrolet and the suspect in the 2000 block of North Hanover Avenue. Raules was arrested on Tuesday and was charged with felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.
An investigation is underway.
