Pedestrian Struck, Killed by Vehicle at Magnolia Avenue and 32nd Street in Wrigley

Elderly Woman Killed in Wrigley Pedestrian Accident at Magnolia Avenue and 32nd Street

Long Beach, California (March 8, 2020) – A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a street Friday evening in Wrigley, Long Beach.

The deadly pedestrian accident happened at around 6:15 p.m. Friday, March 6 at the intersection of Magnolia Avenue and 32nd Street.

Authorities said the pedestrian, an 86-year-old woman, was walking across Magnolia Avenue and 32nd Street in an unmarked crosswalk when she was hit by a gray 2003 Honda Pilot that was heading southbound on Magnolia Avenue.

Paramedics responded to the scene and performed first aid to the woman. She was then rushed to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Her name has not been disclosed pending notification of family.

The driver of the Honda Pilot, a 46-year-old Long Beach man, stopped at the scene and cooperated with the authorities.  Distracted driving, alcohol or drugs were not considered a factor in the accident.

The accident remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call Detective David Lauro at 562-570-7355. Anonymous tips can be submitted through LA Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477 or visiting www.LACrimeStoppers.org.

A person on foot is no match for a large, multi-ton vehicle. Pedestrians have virtually no protection when they are hit by cars, motorcycles, trucks, and other vehicles. Sadly, this often leads to catastrophic injuries and/or death.
