Oscar Campos Among 2 Killed in Santa Maria Car Accident on Highway 166 near Bonita School Road
Santa Maria, California (June 6, 2020) – Authorities have identified Oscar Campos, 30, of Santa Maria as one of the two drivers who were killed in a three-vehicle accident on Friday evening west of Santa Maria.
At about 6:05 p.m., on June 5, the California Highway Patrol responded to the deadly crash on Highway 166 near Bonita School Road.
A 2004 Nissan 350Z, driven by Miguel Preciadonava, 20, was traveling eastbound on Highway 166 at an alleged high rate of speed and overtaking other cars on the right dirt shoulder of Highway 166 when it lost control and spun across the highway, the police said
The Nissan 350Z then collided head-on with a 2017 Nissan Altima, driven by Campos, causing the Altima flipped over and landed on its roof, just off the westbound shoulder of West Black Road.
The Nissan 350Z then continued eastbound on the wrong way, where it collided with a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt compact car, operated by Nabor Ortizlopez, 28, of Santa Maria.
First responders arrived at the scene and extricated persons who were trapped in their vehicles.
Campos and Preciadonava were pronounced dead at the scene, while the other driver, Ortizlopez, sustained minor injuries and was aided at the scene.
Two passengers in the Nissan Altima, a 6-year-old girl, and a 3-year-old boy sustained critical injuries and were flown to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment.
A third passenger in the Nissan Altima, Beatriz Estrada, 28, of Santa Maria, suffered minor injuries and was also treated at the scene.
Traffic on Highway 166 was stopped for several hours following the accident.
The crash remains under investigation.
