Florencio Lopez Fatal Crash in Holister on Highway 156, Russell D. Longworth Arrested
Hollister, California (March 4, 2020) – 41-year-old Florencio Lopez has been identified as the officer killed in a head-on crash on Monday, March 2, at around 3:00 p.m. in Holister, police said.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating on the crash that occurred on Highway 156 west of Fairview Road and east of San Felipe Road .
According to the report, Russell D. Longworth, of Modesto, driving a silver pickup was involved n a head-on crash with a black Volkswagen, driven by officer Lopez.
Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Longworth was injured and airlifted to Natividad in Salinas for treatment of major injuries.
Longworth was suspected of DUI and is expected to be booked into the San Benito County Jail once he recovers.
Lopez was a Monterey County Probation Officer who work for 19 year. Lopez left behind three children. An investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
