Man Killed in Pedestrian Crash on Highway 99 in Modesto

1 Killed in Modesto Pedestrian Accident on Highway 99 near Tuolumne Boulevard

Modesto, California (June 2, 2020) – Authorities are investigating a Monday morning auto-pedestrian crash that killed a man in Modesto.

The crash occurred at about 4:30 a.m., on June 1, on Highway 99, near Tuolumne Boulevard.

The CHP said the man was crawling on the northbound side of the highway when, for unknown reasons, a 2017 Hyundai, driven by Randy Longnecker, 59, of Modesto, stuck him.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Longnecker remained at the scene and was cooperative, said the police.

An investigation into the accident is underway.

A person on foot is no match for a large, multi-ton vehicle. Pedestrians have virtually no protection when they are hit by cars, motorcycles, trucks, and other vehicles. Sadly, this often leads to catastrophic injuries and/or death.
