Man Killed in Head-On Crash on Highway 101 in Indianola

Man Dies Following Fatal Indianola Car Accident on Highway 101 at Indianola Cutoff

Indianola, California (January 15, 2020) – A man was killed Tuesday evening in a head-on collision in Indianola, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The deadly crash took place at around 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, January 14 on Highway 101 at the Indianola Cutoff between Arcata and Eureka.

According to police, a GMC Jimmy was traveling southbound on Highway 101 and was attempting to turn left onto the Indianola Cutoff when for an unknown reason, the Jimmy collided with an oncoming GMC Yukon. Due to the impact, the Jimmy flipped onto its side.

The male driver of the Jimmy died in the crash. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of family.

Two occupants of the Yukon refused transportation to the hospital and left the scene in a cab.

Authorities said neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected factors in the accident.

The  crash remains under investigation.
