John Schmidt Killed in Port Costa Pedestrian Accident near Carquinez Strait Shoreline

Authorities Identify Man Hit, Killed by Amtrak Train near Carquinez Strait Shoreline in Port Costa as John Schmidt

Port Costa, California (December 7, 2019) – Authorities have identified John Schmidt, 52, of Alameda, as the man who died Thursday night after being struck by an Amtrak train in the Port Costa area.

The fatal pedestrian accident took place at around 9:15 p.m. Thursday, December 5 on the railroad tracks near the Carquinez Strait shoreline.

According to the authorities, Schmidt was on the railroad tracks when he was hit by an Amtrak Capitol Corridor Train 548 that was en route to Sacramento.

Schmidt was declared deceased at the scene. It was not immediately clear why he was in Port Costa.

None on board the train was hurt.

The train was delayed for more than three hours while the tracks were cleared. An investigation into the crash is underway.
