John Altobelli, Keri Altobelli, Their Daughter Alyssa Altobelli among 9 Killed in Helicopter Crash in Calabasas
Calabasas, California (January 27, 2019) – Orange Coast College head baseball coach John Altobelli, 56, his wife Keri Altobelli, and their daughter Alyssa Altobelli were among nine people killed Sunday morning when a helicopter crashed into a hillside in Calabasas.
The fatal crash occurred at around 9:47 a.m. Sunday, January 26 in the 4200 block of Las Virgenes Road, just approximately 30 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles.
As per the report, nine people were traveling to the Mamba Sports Academy in Thousand Oaks when for an unknown reason, their helicopter crashed into a rugged hillside and caught fire.
There were no survivors aboard the helicopter.
Los Angeles Lakers basketball legend Kobe Bryant, 41, and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna Maria Onore Bryant were also aboard the helicopter.
Others aboard the helicopter were Sarah Chester, 45, and her daughter, Payton Chester, 13. The helicopter pilot was identified as Ara Zobayan.
Christina Mauser also died in the crash. She was an assistant girls basketball coach at the private Harbor Day School in Corona del Mar.
Authorities said the weather condition at the time was foggy.
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
