Joe Barrett Struck, Critically Injured by Hit-and-Run Driver in Concord

Joe Barrett Seriously Injured in Concord Pedestrian Accident on Port Chicago Highway On-Ramp to Eastbound Highway 4

Concord, California (February 11, 2020) – The pedestrian who was seriously injured Monday night in an alleged hit-and-run accident in Concord has been identified as Joe Barrett, 18, of Concord.

Barrett had just exited a bus when he was hit by a vehicle on the Port Chicago Highway on-ramp to eastbound Highway 4 at about 9:15 p.m. Monday, February 10.

Barrett was transported to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek in critical condition.

The driver involved failed to stop to render aid and fled the scene. Police have since found a person and vehicle of interest in the case.

An investigation into the accident is underway. Anyone with details regarding this crash is encouraged to contact the CHP’s Contra Costa office at (925) 646-4980.

A person on foot is no match for a large, multi-ton vehicle. Pedestrians have virtually no protection when they are hit by cars, motorcycles, trucks, and other vehicles. Sadly, this often leads to catastrophic injuries and/or death.
