Jesus Lopez Hospitalized after Deadly 2-Vehicle Crash on Highway 46 near Antelope Road in Paso Robles

Paso Robles, California (March 16, 2020) – A two-vehicle crash on Highway 46 near Antelope Road in Paso Robles killed a San Luis Obispo man Sunday night and left a Salinas man with serious injuries, according to authorities.

On March 15, at around 8:15 p.m., a 2010 Chino motorcoach was heading westbound on Highway 46 East downhill from Antelope Road at approximately 55 mph while a Freighlighter truck was traveling eastbound uphill at about 45 mph.

For undetermined reasons, the Chino motorcoach veered across double yellow lines into the eastbound lane, where it collided head-on with the Freighlighter.

As a result of the collision, the Freightliner rolled over and landed onto its roof on the south roadway edge while the Chino motorcoach overturned and came to a stop on the north shoulder of the highway.

The driver of the Chino motorcoach, only identified as an 84-year-old San Luis Obispo man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Freightliner driver, Jesus Duarte Lopez of Salinas, suffered major injuries in the crash. He was transported to the Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo.

It was cold and raining when the accident occurred, authorities said. Alcohol, drugs, and distracted driving were not suspected factors in the crash.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
