James Radzik Dies, Helen Scheuplein Arrested after Claremont Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident on Towne Avenue

James Radzik Killed in Hit-and-Run Claremont Pedestrian Accident on Towne Avenue near Syracuse Drive

Claremont, California (January 10, 2020) – 50-year-old James Radzik of Rancho Cucamonga suffered fatal injuries after a Claremont hit-and-run pedestrian collision early Wednesday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly collision occurred a while before 2:30 a.m. January 8, in the 1600 block of Towne Avenue near Syracuse Drive.

Responding firefighters found Radzik’s body on a pavement along the street.

Officials said the involved driver fled the scene after the crash. Authorities later located the suspect, identified as Helen Scheuplein, 67, of Covina, in the 500 block of East Foothill Boulevard at around 5:55 p.m. Thursday.

Scheuplein was arrested and is being held on a bail set $100,000 at the Claremont Police Department Jail on charges of hit-and-run causing death, vehicular manslaughter, and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

An investigation is ongoing.
