Good Samaritan Dies after Being Hit by Vehicle on Highway 101 in San Mateo

Good Samaritan Killed in San Mateo Pedestrian Accident on Highway 101 near 3rd Avenue Off-ramp

San Mateo, California (February 21, 2020) – A Good Samaritan died after being hit by a vehicle while attempting to help a driver involved in an accident early Friday morning in San Mateo, the California Highway Patrol report.

The crash took place at around 1:54 a.m. on southbound Highway 101 near 3rd Avenue exit.

According to the CHP, a man in his late 20’s or early 30’s was attempting to help a driver who had gotten into a solo-vehicle collision when he was struck by another oncoming vehicle.

The man died at the scene. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.

The driver suffered major injuries in the previous accident. He was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Police closed three lanes of southbound Highway 101 at the 3rd Avenue exit following the crash.

The CHP is investigating the accident.

A person on foot is no match for a large, multi-ton vehicle. Pedestrians have virtually no protection when they are hit by cars, motorcycles, trucks, and other vehicles. Sadly, this often leads to catastrophic injuries and/or death.
