One Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash on Highway 162 in Covelo

Covelo, California – A fatal vehicle accident that occurred on Tuesday night near Highway 162 killed one person. The authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.

The CHP stated that a 2019 international fuel truck carrying about 2000 pounds of diesel fuel was traveling westbound when unknowingly the driver went off the roadway and hit a tree.

Following the impact of the crash, the truck overturned and landed on its side.

ON August 26, at around 11 pm the accident was reported near Barnes Lane in Covelo.

According to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office, the truck driver was killed in the accident. However, his identity is not disclosed pending the family notification.

After the accident, Highway 162 was shut down for around an hour as the crew worked in clearing the road and wreck.

Furthermore, the Mendocino County Environmental Health and Redwood Empire Hazardous Incident Team (REHIT) helped in offloading the diesel from the truck.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
