Desmond King Identified as Victim In Fatal DUI Pedestrian Accident on Bancroft Avenue in Oakland

Oakland, California (March 30, 2020) – A hit-and-run accident claimed the life of an Oakland man Sunday evening and injured three other men in the Fairfax district of Oakland.

On March 29, at about 6:51 p.m., a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu was heading westbound in the 5400 block of Bancroft Avenue when, for unknown reasons, it crashed into a parked vehicle on the north curb. The Malibu then hit four men who were standing on the sidewalk.

One of the victims, identified as Desmond King, 29, of Oakland, died at the scene. Three other men, aged 39, 45, and 50, were taken to a local hospital, where one patient was listed in critical condition and the other two in stable condition.

The driver of the Malibu, a 29-year-old man, did stop to render aid and fled the scene on foot but was later arrested.

Authorities found that the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of DUI, vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run causing death or injury.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
