Cyclist Killed in Bicycle Accident at San Joaquin Hills Road and Newport Ridge Drive in Newport Beach

1 Person Killed in Newport Beach Bicycle Crash at San Joaquin Hills Road and Newport Ridge Drive

Newport Beach, California (March 16, 2020) – One person was killed in a bicycle crash on Saturday night in Newport Beach, according to police.

The deadly crash occurred at about 11:21 p.m., on March 14, at San Joaquin Hills Road and Newport Ridge Drive West, at the entrance to the gated Newport Ridge community.

The cyclist was reportedly hit by a vehicle in unclear circumstances. It is believed that a Honda Insight and a Toyota SUV were street racing when the accident occurred, and the cyclist was involved in the mishap.

A mangled bicycle and a shoe believed to be for the cyclist were reportedly found at approximately 100 feet from the crash site.

The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of the accident.

More information about the crash was immediately not available.

The crash remains under investigation.
