1 Hospitalized after Interstate 880 Accident near Marina Boulevard in San Leandro

San Leandro, California (April 25, 2020) – One person sustained major injuries Friday afternoon following a two-vehicle crash in San Leandro, authorities said.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the 1:03 collision happened on the Interstate 880 Freeway, just south of Marina Boulevard on-ramp.

A blue Toyota Scion was allegedly speeding on the freeway when it struck the left side of a Mercedes SUV, according to witnesses.

The driver of the Mercedes sustained major injuries and was taken to a hospital. The name and condition of the victim were not immediately disclosed.

The Mercedes acquired major left-side damage and was towed away from the scene. Authorities closed the slow lane of the freeway following the wreck.

The accident remains under investigation.
