Christopher Ortiz Identified as Person Killed in McFarland Car Crash on Highway 43 near Sherwood Avenue

McFarland, California (June 27, 2020) – Christopher Ortiz, 34, of Wasco, has been identified as the man who was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Friday morning in McFarland, Kern County, authorities said.

As per the police log, the crash occurred just after 3:30 a.m., on June 26, on Highway 43 near Sherwood Avenue.

The California Highway Patrol said a BMW, driven by Ortiz, was heading westbound on Sherwood Avenue when it collided with a Dodge Ram pickup that was traveling northbound on Highway 43.    

The BMW driver reportedly failed to yield the right-of-way to the Dodge pickup and had allegedly run a red light at the intersection before the collision.

Following the collision, both vehicles came to a rest in a nearby canal and were submerged in water. 

Ortiz was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The Dodge driver was unhurt in the crash.    

More details about the accident were not immediately available.    

An investigation into the crash is underway.
