CHP Investigating Fatal Merced Pedestrian Accident at Highway 59 and Jefferson Road
Male Pedestrian Killed in El Nido Traffic Crash at Highway 59 and Jefferson Road
El Nido, California (February 19, 2020) – A 26-year-old man was struck and killed by a vehicle in the area of East Jefferson Road and Highway 59 on Tuesday evening, the California Highway Patrol reported.
As per the CHP report, the male party stepped into the highway and was struck by a 2016 Nissan Sentra operated by a 24-year-old woman at about 10:30 p.m. February 18.
The man was believed to have been a passenger in another vehicle and had exited the car to smoke a cigarette in the area of El Nido, Merced County at the time of the collision.
Officials said the involved motorist lost control after hitting the pedestrian and slammed into a utility pole. She stopped after the wreck and cooperated with the investigation.
The victim died in the accident.
The investigation is underway.
