Child Hit, Seriously Injured by Car on White and Hughes Lanes in Bakersfield
3-Year-Old Boy Hospitalized after Bakersfield Pedestrian Crash on White and Hughes Lanes
Bakersfield, California (April 24, 2020) – A three-year-old boy was seriously injured in a pedestrian crash on Thursday morning in Bakersfield, according to officials.
The accident happened at about 5:00 a.m., on April 23, on White and Hughes lanes.
The police said the boy was struck by a pickup truck on the roadway in unclear circumstances.
Following the accident, the child was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
The involved driver, identified as Ruben Venegas Etcheverria, 46, fled the scene after the incident.
Etcheverria returned to the crash site an hour later and was arrested for felony hit-and-run involving injury.
Drugs, alcohol or speed are not believed to have played a role in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the collision is urged to contact BPD at (661) 327-7111.
