Calaveras County, California (April 28, 2020) – A head-on collision claimed the life of a motorcycle rider Saturday afternoon near Lake Tulloch in Calaveras County, the California Highway Patrol said.
The fatal crash happened on O’Byrnes Ferry Road, just south of Duchess Drive between Highway 4 and Highway 120 at around 5:50 p.m. Saturday, April 25.
The CHP said Brechtel was riding his 1987 Harley Davidson northbound on O’Byrnes Ferry when, for an unknown reason, he crossed over the double yellow lines into the opposite lane and collided head-on with a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox operated by Briana Mason, 29, of Davis.
The force of the impact ejected Brechtel from his motorcycle.
Emergency personnel responded and pronounced Brechtel dead at the scene. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, authorities said.
Mason and her passenger, Evan Gorder, 29, of Davis, were uninjured in the crash. Both were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
Alcohol or drugs were not considered a factor in the crash.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
“Far too many motorcycle collisions are caused by the carelessness or recklessness of other motorists. Sadly, when this occurs, motorcyclists are the ones who tend to suffer the vast majority of injuries”, according to Arin Khodaverdian, Managing Partner and CEO Alpine Law Group. Under California’s rule of comparative negligence, a victim may be able to collect compensation for injuries and other damages even if you were partly at fault for the accident.
Mr. Khodaverdian has worked for many years as a wrongful death and personal injury attorney. He and his team of attorneys has helped thousands of injury victims and their families recover over $100 million in compensation. “In one case, we recovered a 7-figure settlement within 11 business days of being hired by the family of a victim who was killed by a negligent driver.”
Swift action by an experienced attorney helps preserve evidence, interview witnesses, and begin to pursue those responsible for the incident.
