Byern Smith Killed in Los Angeles Hit-and-Run Crash on Seventh Street, Maria Perez Arrested

Victim Struck and Killed by Hit-and-Run Driver on Seventh Street in Los Angeles ID’d as Byern Smith

Los Angeles, California (May 19, 2020) – 51-year-old Byern Smith has been identified as the victim who was struck and killed by an alleged hit-and-run driver on Seventh Street in downtown Los Angeles earlier this month, police reported.

As per the report, Smith was hit by a 2005 Scion xB driven by 59-year-old Maria Perez while walking in the 1600 block of East 7th Street at about 2:00 a.m. on May 7.

Sadly, Smith died in the accident.

Perez, a Bell Gardens resident, fled the scene after the wreck. Police later arrested her in the area of Gladys Avenue and 6th Street at around 1:50 a.m. Sunday

Perez was booked on felony hit-and-run two felony warrants, three misdemeanor warrants, and is expected to be in court on Monday.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
