Bicyclist Pronounced Brain-Dead Sunday after Crash in Huntington Beach Identified

Huntington Beach, California (December 10, 2019) – Authorities have identified the bicyclist who was pronounced brain-dead after colliding with a vehicle Friday in Huntington Beach, a local news source reported.

The crash occurred at about 6:30 a.m. at Gothard Street and Heil Avenue.

Authorities said the bicyclist was traveling the wrong way when he collided with a 2003 Ford Expedition driven by a 34-year-old Huntington Beach man.

Paramedics responded to the scene and transported Gomez to UCI Medical Center with major trauma. The patient was pronounced brain-dead Sunday at about 1:30 p.m.

The driver of the car was not injured and remained at the scene after the crash.

The Expedition acquired damage to its front end.

Authorities are investigating the accident.
