Authorities Identify Victims of Fatal West Covina Crash on Interstate 10
Yuan Zhang, Jorge Vidana, Jaynene Owens Among Injured in West Covina Crash that Killed Man
West Covina, California (January 2, 2020) – Authorities have identified the victims of a chain-reaction crash that happened Monday afternoon on San Bernardino (10) Freeway in West Covina, killing a man.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at about 5:30 p.m. near Holt Avenue.
As per the CHP report, Amado Santos, 60, of Sun Valley, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Express van in the No. 2 lane at about 60 mph. Authorities said, for unknown reasons, the Chevy crashed into the back of a 2014 compact car driven by 37-year-old Yuan Zhang, of Chino Hills.
The force caused Zhang’s car to hit a 2008 Chrysler Aspen SUV driven by Jorge Vidana, 43, of La Puente. The SUV then struck a Kia Stinger sedan driven by 40-year-old Jaynene Owens, of Covina.
A 28-year-old man in the Smart car sustained fatal injuries. He was rushed to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. His name has not yet been released.
Zhang was hospitalized with blunt trauma injury, Vidana suffered shoulder and leg injuries, and Owens and her passenger sustained shoulder, neck, and back pain.
Meanwhile, Santos suffered a cut to his chin.
The crash forced authorities to close all westbound lanes east of Holt Avenue until about 9:30 p.m.
CHP is investigating the accident.
