Kevin Wilson Killed in El Cajon Bicycle Accident on Dehesa Road near Singing Hills Golf Course

El Cajon, California (January 21, 2020) – The bicyclist who was killed Monday morning in an alleged hit-and-run accident in El Cajon has been identified as Kevin Wilson, 56, of La Mesa.

The fatal bicycle accident occurred at around 10:45 a.m. Monday, January 20 on Dehesa Road near Singing Hills Golf Course.

Authorities said Craig Wendell Nelson, 56, was driving eastbound on Dehesa Road when for an unknown reason, he allowed his 1993 Mitsubishi Mirage to cross into a bike lane east of Willow Glen Drive and hit Wilson from behind.

Wilson was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, where he was later declared dead.

Nelson did not stop to render aid and continued traveling to the east and south. He then pulled over on Sloane Canyon Road and fled on foot.

Nelson was later found hiding in a nearby brushy area. He was arrested and booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run.

Anyone with details regarding the accident is urged to contact the CHP El Cajon area office at 619-401-2000.
