8 Hurt, 2 Severely, in Bakersfield Car Accident on Weedpatch Highway near Bengston Avenue

Bakersfield, California (June 8, 2020) – Authorities are investigating a two-vehicle accident that left eight people nursing injuries on Sunday night in Bakersfield.

The accident occurred on Weedpatch Highway near Bengston Avenue, at about 8:40 p.m., on June 7.

The California Highway Patrol said a Subaru was driving northbound on Weedpatch Highway when it crossed the double yellow lines while trying to pass by traffic in opposing lanes.

The Subaru reportedly collided head-on with a Chevy Suburban that was heading southbound on Weedpatch Highway.

Both the Subaru and the Chevy drivers were transported to a hospital with major injuries.

Six other parties in the Chevy were also taken to a hospital with injuries ranging from minor to moderate.

The roadway was closed for about an hour following the accident.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
