73-Year-Old Man Hospitalized after Fatal San Diego Accident on Genesee Avenue near Chateau Drive

Clairemont, California (December 12, 2019) – Authorities are investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision that left a 57-year-old man dead and a 73-year-old man hurt on Wednesday afternoon in Clairemont, San Diego.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at about 12:35 p.m. Wednesday, December 11, on Genesee Avenue near Chateau Drive.

Authorities said a 57-year-old man was driving a 2004 Lexus sedan south when he apparently tried to make a left turn on a red light driving into the path of a northbound 2018 Tesla SUV.

The 57-year-old man was declared dead at the scene while the Tesla driver, a 73-year-old man, was taken to the hospital for complaint of pain in one of his arms.

As per the authorities, the Lexus driver initiated a left turn in front of the Telsa after violation of a red traffic arrow and hence causing the collision. The motorist was reportedly not wearing a seat belt at the crash time.

To give way to an on-scene investigation, investigators closed Chateau Drive from Genesee to Diane Avenue.
