Sharlene Ayala and Patricia Romero Killed in Riverside Car Accident on Central Avenue

Riverside, California (May 19, 2020) – 19-year-old Sharlene Ayala and 63-year-old Patricia Romero were the women who died when a car drifted into opposing lanes and crashed into their vehicle Friday at about 12:30 p.m. on Central Avenue in Riverside, according to the Riverside Police Department.

The two women, both residents of Riverside, sustained fatal injuries in the collision that happened near Montclair Drive.

According to police, Ayala was driving a Toyota Corolla east on Central Avenue with Romero, her passenger.

At the same time, a 28-year-old male driver of a newer model Jeep was west on Central when, for unknown reasons, drifted into opposing lanes and collided with the Corolla.

Ayala sustained fatal injuries and died at the crash scene. Romero was taken to Riverside Community Hospital for treatment but was declared dead about an hour later.

The driver of the Jeep suffered minor injuries in the accident. Police said he was not arrested.

Authorities are investigating the accident.
